Koh Rong Holidays A simple guide to the best locations

Koh Rong Holidays

Koh Rong Holidays

Many sectors have been developed over the past years on the Koh Rong islands. This page will provide you a lates Koh Rong beach information and critique all the coastline on Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, so you can dive in the best tips for your Koh Rong holidays!

First, forget about some information that you could find from other websites. Actually, Koh Rong is not just a spot for parties! Indeed, Koh Touch, the primary tourist zone, has a reputation for being vibrant, but there are also many places on Koh Rong that are quiet, soothing, and genuinely fascinating.

While you’re searching for a carnival vibe, then yes, we suggest Koh Touch; that’s where all of Koh Rong’s primary ferry services stop. Nonetheless, if you want to experience an island paradise in a somewhat laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere, then Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem have some decent options.

The portion of Koh Touch is filled with guest houses, cafes, pubs, and nightclubs. Those scenes will show up right in front of you as you get off the boat.

The article will consistently introduce you to some of the vital information related to both islands so that you can compare whether which tourist spot is suited to your needs and desires.

Koh Touch is considered as the major tourist spot, which is famous for its low-cost drinks, cheap accommodation.

The price of lodging stays around 15 dollars. It would consist of a piece of blaring music and late-night gathering; hence, it is a perfect place for anyone who is searching for rocking a full night party vibe.

The most significant disadvantage is that it is challenging to keep the place clean and in good shape, as with many compelling party attractions. During night time, loud noise can be a concern, and the accommodation is very simple.

On the other hand!

This section of Koh Rong has several western stores, a medical facility, usually good Wi-Fi, a way to get cash out, and lots of events such as snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, windsurfing, scuba diving, a High Point Zip Line, a Rope Park, a water park, biking, paddleboarding, Jet Ski rental, and a blob jump. As I have mentioned, the place keeps things exciting and comfortable.

As noted earlier, Koh Touch’s primary tourist zone has a status as a party spot. A quick stroll to the right side of the main pier, indeed, will take you to some pleasant, calm, and relaxing places.

I advise that you seek White Beach Bungalows or Paradise Bungalows.

While these hotels, the sound is not really an issue sometimes in the distance, you may detect soft music, but it is not supposed to keep you up late at night.

The surrounding area is clean and fresh. Moreover, the waters are pristine and welcoming. This is mirrored in the resort price of more than USD50 per night in this location.

There is just a little drawback about these hotels, the drawback is that they are a short walk to the significant tourist field, allowing easy entry to stores, restaurants, and bars, respectively.

Koh Rong Hostels and Attractive Spots

Recently, it’s not easy to seek for the best lodging at Koh Rong while the gorgeous places are enormous, with many various types of guest houses, bungalows and luxury resorts spread across beaches.

I have divided the accommodation into clear categories to assist you in making a plan and schedule your journey. You may try to select a category from below and explore the hotels that we suggest.

Koh Rong Hotels and Party Zone

If you are searching for a fun party atmosphere in a tropical island paradise, then Koh Rong’s main tourist area (Koh Touch Beach) is the perfect spot for you.

The whole part of Koh Touch is filled with guest houses, bungalows, pubs, restaurants, and nightclubs straight in front of you as you get off of the boat. You may look forward to a lively late nightlife, cheap alcohol, and massive dance music.

Koh Touch
Koh Touch

Lodging is relatively low-priced through this area, ranging from $5-$30 per night. But, do not arrive there with huge expectations, because most of them are very simple hotels, bungalows, hostels, and guest houses.

Sunflower Guest House, Natural Lounge Guesthouse, and White Rose Guest House are recommended, then if you want to rent a small bungalow, Smile Bungalows and Happy Bungalows are fair worth the money.

If you want to stay close to the bustling core but want a decent night’s sleep, Happy Elephant Resort and Island Palace are of a high standard. Although the rooms are relatively simple, the bungalows are a little uphill, so disturbance of loud music is not a big issue.

You may also book a room on Police Beach in one of the guesthouses where daily late-night party events occur. Police Beach is a 15-minute walk via a short jungle path from the police shore.

The shore here is relatively clean and orderly, and it seems to be less crowded during the day than Koh Touch’s leading tourist region. Nonetheless, don’t expect a lot from the lodging.

Koh Rong Hotels in Quieter Areas

If you would like to stay in a calm, relaxing atmosphere where you can lay back, rest, and enjoy the beautiful views, then Koh Rong is perfect for several quieter areas.

You could remain on Koh Touch’s less busy parts.

Here you can appreciate the white sandy beaches and sparkling ocean waters in a peaceful and relaxing environment, while only taking a short walk from the central piers and busy bars, restaurants, and shops.

I would suggest White Beach Bungalows, Tree House Bungalows, and Paradise Bungalows, all within walking distance of the main pier. You are heading straight to the right when you get off the boat.

But if you want to stick with a marvelous scenic of Koh Rong, I would suggest Highland Beach Bungalows. You are located directly on the other side of the accommodation described above. Which means you will have to head left after you get off the boat.

However, there are many other resorts focused on Koh Rong’s more remote regions. In specific, Pura Vita and Palm Beach Resort that provide breathtaking beach and gorgeous views.

Lonely Beach

We agree that Lonely Beach is Koh Rong’s most beautiful beach. Separated on the island’s northern side, the tiny entry hall feels like a real paradise on the deserted island, with crystal clear ocean waters, soft white sand beaches, tall palm trees everywhere, but very few people nearby.

The environment is peaceful, with only a few snails chirping in the distance, so calm and quiet.

In this section of Koh Rong, aptly labeled Lonely Beach Resort, there is the only single resort.

The accommodation itself is very picturesque and, throughout their travel, is not ideal for anyone finding some warmth. This is expressed in the USD40-50 per night range.

It’s also not suitable for someone who doesn’t want to travel while Lonely Beach provides a boat to that part of the island.

It may take 2-3 hours to get there from Sihanoukville, and the trip includes small boats that aren’t so stable on the seas. There are no stores or other services in the area, even Wi-Fi, so yes, it is possible to bring with you all you need.

Palm Beach

Palm Beach, as the title implies, is a palm-covered vacation spot spanning the famous Song Saa Private Island, it is located just around the corner from Lonely Beach.

There is only one accommodation on this island, and it is probably one of the best values for money spots to stay on Koh Rong. It’s often a delight to see such a beautiful location with decent accommodation starting at just USD30 per night.

The beach is fairly clean and always well maintained; the waters of the ocean are crystal clear, sparkling, and welcoming. The depiction of the palm-tree offers an idealized sight.

The problem could be that, as with Lonely Beach, the island’s northern side is usually harder to reach, but this has been made much easier by Speed Ferry Cambodia, which is currently set a daily three times stop at Palm Beach.

This resort has no stores, so bring extra stuff with you all the essentials. There is no Wi-Fi, so make sure you get in touch with everybody you need before you leave.

Sok San Village

Sok San Village, located on the site of Sok San Beach Resort, would be another fantastic alternative for a cultural experience.

Like M’Pai Bay, now you have the opportunity to learn about the local Khmer community, meet the friendly fishing communities, and have a glimpse of how real Cambodians live daily.

For the traveling visitor, the village is full of small guesthouses and bungalows. There are several Khmer local shops nearby, so dining out can be cheap. You can move around the area and seek only USD2 for a meal.

The beach area here is magnificent and well-kept, with several resorts and bars extending across the ocean waters. Behind the village, there’s even a stunning waterfall, which brings the rainy season closer to a fantastic view. Often perfect is the setting of secure, quiet, and calming.

Stop at Sok San Village with your next visit to Cambodia beaches at both Islands by using the service of Speed Boat Cambodia and the Buva Sea. It will be operated three times a day for Speed Boat Cambodia and once a day for the Buva Sea.

The ride will cost about USD25 in return and take about 1 hour to complete. Sok San Beach Resort now operates a regular ferry service from Sihanoukville to Sok San, but the privilege is given to their guests, and prices for non-guests are elevated at USD40.

Like M’Pai Bay, Sok San Village’s only drawback is that it wasn’t for everybody. If you’re searching to lay back and relax in a more isolated environment, or if you want to live in some comfortable lodging, consider visiting another part of Koh Rong.

Sok San Beach map

4K Beach

Besides the fantastic scenery and welcoming sparkling waters, what’s unique about 4K beach is that this is a short walk away from Koh Rong’s major tourist area, Koh Touch.

On your left-hand side, you’re going past Paradise Bungalows and White Beach Bungalows, and Tree House is the next resort. Continue to walk around the beach area, and you’re going to pass a new resort called StarFish.

Sometimes you need to go into the forest from the actual beach site, but it’s straightforward to follow the road.

After about 15 minutes you head out to a broad beach area, which is about 4 kilometers, with very little development, you will see the place. Currently, more resorts are being built in the area.

This beach’s most significant disadvantage is that there are just a few places to stay. Okay, whether you want to say anything, there’s something to be said about maintaining its beautiful nature. However, if there is no accommodation directly on the beach, everyone can’t enjoy the mesmerizing scenery as it should be. Another issue is what kind of accommodation would be suitable.

One of the best beach end resorts is Pura Vita. It will cost you USD65 per night. A genuinely picturesque spot with dazzling turquoise ocean waters, white sandy beaches, and tropical forest.

The other great resort on Long Beach is the Long Set Resort. Completed at the end of 2016, Longset Resort provides inexpensive luxury lodging.

The soft white sandy beach is beautiful, and some of the views are really cool. Throughout the day, lounge by the pool or swim in the warm ocean, then enjoy the dazzling luminescent plankton at night.

Speed Ferry Cambodia and the Buva Sea are currently going straight to Long Set Island. Therefore you have a chance to head straight forward to get to this site of the island.

Nonetheless, if you stay at any of the resorts, please make sure to bring with you all the necessities as the nearest shops are located on Koh Touch. You will have to walk for one hour to reach Koh Touch.

Daem Thkov Village

Daem Thkov Village on Koh Rong is worth mentioning for a tremendous cultural exploration. Daem Thkov is a tiny village on the island’s eastern side. There is one great guesthouse, in specific, which should be listed here.

The Village has an exceptional kind of environment for you. Like M’Pai Bay and Sok San, you’ll learn about the local Khmer community here, meet the local fishing families, and get a glimpse of how real Cambodians live on in a real situation.

The Inn is only 10 minutes away from a stunning sandy beach in which you can appreciate the spectacular views in a relaxed atmosphere.

Some great plans such as village tours, snorkeling/scuba diving, plankton fishing, sunset rock experiences, volleyball, and boat tour should be noted in your itinerary.

What is lovely is that the Inn’s founders are heavily committed to helping local people, much amount of the Inn’s profit goes back to the community’s protection.

Daem Thkov Village’s major disadvantage is that it’s not that easy to reach. You will need to take Koh Touch’s long-tail boat, which is not recommended on tough days. It’s also not really appropriate for anyone aiming for some luxury during their stay. It’s ordinary hospitality, which is embodied in about USD20 per night.

Premium resorts in Koh Rong

If you really want to experience the crystal clear ocean waters, beautiful white sandy beaches and exotic tropical scenery, but prefer a more luxurious lodging through your visit, there are several exclusive resorts at your fingertips.

Sok San Beach Resort, Koh Rong Resort, The Royal Sands, Long Set Resort, and the world-famous Song Saa Private Island are recommended on Koh Rong.

Sok San Beach Resort

Based on Koh Rong’s western side, Sok San Beach Resort provides more spacious accommodation in a secluded area of Sok San Bay. It is built initially to attract the cast and crew of the famous Survivor TV series, and the self-contained resort has over 600 villas and several stores, restaurants, and bars.

The resort operates a private and direct Sihanoukville ferry service, and it’s convenient enough to get there as far as connectivity reaches. The resort’s campground is in excellent shapes, such as soft white beaches, crystal clear ocean waters, and beautiful scenery.

The resort’s performance quality is superb, and the rate begins at USD80 per night. Maybe what’s very interesting is that there’s enough beach space for everyone to go around even at peak periods, but you’re not feeling as fortunate as you claim Saracen Bay.

Koh Rong Resort

Koh Rong Resort is a relatively recent development on the west side of Koh Rong. This more private jaunt didn’t get the highest ratings, but perhaps this is partially due to a lack of reliable information about its site.

The resort is near Koh Touch’s main tourist town, but it’s a quick boat trip away, making it a bit uncomfortable. Most of the people are coming to the resort in anticipation of being on Koh Touch and are therefore surprised to realize that they have to move farther.

What is lovely on this resort is that it doesn’t get too crowded; therefore you can lay back and appreciate the beautiful views in peace and tranquility with its stunning swimming pool (the resort is one of the few to have a swimming pool on the islands, the others are Song Saa, The One, and The Royal Sands Koh Rong).

The white sandy beach nowadays is well maintained, and the lodging is of an excellent standard.

The accommodation there provides clean, comfortable air-conditioned rooms, spacious bathrooms, and a restaurant serving good quality food. There are no significant shops or services here, so be sure to carry with you any essentials.

The Royal Sands

On a magnificent section of Koh Rong, the Royal Sands Koh Rong provides luxurious luxury accommodation. It is a stunning resort, with private swimming pools, deluxe lodging, and operation of world-class.

Long Set Resort

Long Set Resort is built on a stunning white sandy beach, and there are some really spectacular views. Throughout the day, rest by the pool or swim in the warm ocean, then capture the sparkling bioluminescent plankton at night time.

Song Saa Private Island

The legendary Song Saa Private Island is renowned for its amazing scenics and world-class service at over $2000 per night. As Koh Rong’s only resort with an international 5-star ranking, Song Saa is a perfect choice for those who want the most glamorous of fashions to embrace an island paradise.

Accommodation in Koh Rong Somloem

Koh Rong Samloem also has a few excellent luxury resorts. Sol Beach Resort and The One Resort, both on Saracen Bay, are where people rate as high standard accommodation.

Sol Beach Resort

Sol Beach Resort is situated in Saracen Bay city center. The modern Western-style villas are fitted with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, cozy beds, and en-suite bathrooms with a hot shower, steam, and west-style toilet.

The stunning white sandy beaches are in perfect condition, and the ocean waters are mesmerizing, shifting on an hourly basis from green to blue to turquoise.

The One Resort

The One Resort offers a unique standard of lodging to Sol Beach, including modern Western-style villas, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, comfortable beds, and en-suite bathrooms with hot shower, kitchen, and western toilet.

The One Resort also has a stunning infinity-edge swimming pool spanning the beautiful ocean vastness, and a wide range of drinks to match the scene.

Lazy Beach

Mentioned by the National Geographic in the top 21 beaches in the World, the Lazy Beach is a charming little nook comfortably hidden away on Koh Rong Samloem’s western side.

The beach area over here is very stunning while the beaches are silky smooth, the sun shines in the blue waters, and the surrounding mountains give excellent scenery.

Such as Lonely Beach, this part of Koh Rong Samloem has only one beach. The accommodation is fundamental, which stays over USD30 per night, so during your stay at Lazy Beach Resort is not suitable for anyone seeking much comfort.

And, like Lonely Beach, Lazy Beach isn’t the island’s most accessible place. Even though the spot does provide a private taxi boat from Saracen Bay, many visitors end up having to walk the 40-minute jungle path to get there.

It’s not that bad with the road itself, but it is possible to become very cumbersome with heavy bags. You will find the gateway to the trail at The Royal Retreat next to the Octopussy Restaurant.

Also, be sure to carry with you all the stuff you need, as there are no stores or services on this side of the island. There is also no Wi-Fi, so instead of social media, you might have to look at the spectacular sunsets!

Attraction and Activities on Koh Rong Island

A lot of new amenities and events have been opening up on Koh Rong over the past year. Here, we’ll list the most significant things to see and do on the beautiful island.

It is included snorkeling/scuba diving with the tropical marine life, seeing spectacular sunsets and glowing plankton, paddling, kayaking, windsurfing, jet-skiing, and more.

Snorkeling and Scuba Diving

Most places on Koh Touch allow you to plan for snorkeling trips. It is the ideal way to see some of the island’s magnificent miniature ecosystems, corals, seahorses, and nudibranchs.

It’s straightforward to plan a trip. You’re going to have it on the seafront. Fishing, seeing the sparkling plankton, BBQs, and sunsets will also be included in a typical snorkeling ride. They generally cost around $10 and will be between 1 pm and 7 pm.

If you would like to be sent out a little bit more (about $70 for the ride), we suggest that you hire a private long boat to take you farther north to Pineapple Island (this way, you can also take a trip around the entire Koh Rong).

There are some beautiful sandy beaches around here with the best snorkeling spots, and if you like, you can stop many times to try the local Khmer fishing methods (by using a plastic bottle and some catching wire).

Koh Rong Plankton

Glistening like a starry sky all around you, the bioluminescent plankton of Koh Rong is a beautiful sight to see at night. While this phenomenon is standard on the islands, however, only areas with minimal light pollution could see the sparkling plankton.

As mentioned above, if you’re staying on Koh Touch, the simplest way to see the plankton is by scheduling a boat tour, or you can either walk to Police Beach on non-party nights, which is 15 minutes from the major pier.

The Tree House Bungalows is 15 minutes from the main pier or even go to Long Set Beach at the corner of Koh Touch.

It is easy to organize a tour while you can see many promoted boards along the beach, and it will cost around USD5 for a ride to see the plankton. It is usually leaving at 7 pm in the evening. After an excursion, you can also see the plankton.

Koh Rong Sunsets

 Koh Rong Sunsets
Koh Rong Sunsets from Sok San Beach

The best sunsets are usually found on the western and northern sides of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem.

Some popular locations to enjoy with this activity are Sok San Beach Resort, The Royal Sands, and Koh Rong Lonely Beach, M’Pay Bay, Lazy Beach, and Sunset Beach at Koh Rong Samloem.

Koh Rong Island Tours

Koh Rong is a huge island. If you wish to see some of the other amazing places, we advise you to take an island tour.

The trip will require a whole day long, but some of the sights are impressive. From pristine sandy beaches, stunning little-known resorts, world-famous private islands, and small fishing villages, I am sure that you will feel satisfied with your journey.

On Koh Touch, you can conveniently hire a tour boat. You’ll see them displayed all over the beach. One longboat will take up to 10 or so passengers, and you’re going to look at paying around USD100 between you for the whole day.

To give you a clue, try to hang out early, and you can see all the things before it gets dark.

Koh Rong Holidays

One beautiful thing about island tours is you can pause along the way wherever you ask for. You can choose how long time you want to spend at any spot.

Jet Skiing in Koh Rong

You can reserve a Jetski at either KM Watersports or Golden Bungalows for some fast-paced activity on the beautiful clear waters.

Prices are generally differing seasonally and sometimes based on the number of tourists each day.

Hence, you probably need to pay USD150 for an hour of fun. Pay attention to those people who are doing snorkeling or diving in the water.

Koh Rong Windsurfing

A bit of wind can be found farther away from the main swimming zones, which is considered as an ideal activity to windsurfing. Whether you’re a professional or a novice, windsurfing at this beautiful island are encouraged to be practiced.

Koh Rong Kayaking

With a tiny wave, the water can be smooth on a pleasant day. It is perfect for a little adventure. On Long Set Beach (or 4K Beach), you can kayak to a small island for snorkeling or to the Mangrove River. The rental price is around USD5 an hour or USD12 per day.

Koh Rong Paddle Boarding

If the above activity seems like too much effort, with some casual paddleboarding, you are now able to take full advantage of the calm waters. A few sites on Koh Touch rent paddleboards. You just ask somebody at the main beach when you’re there, and you are to hire the board.

High Point Zip Line and Rope Park, Koh Rong

The Zip Line and Rope Park at High Point is an obstacle course in the woods. For those that want to see beautiful jungle landscapes while having some active fun, it’s a kind of jungle gym to invoke the builder.

Twenty ropes are hanging among the trees, each with a different challenge. One is a tightrope, for instance, and one is a horizontal staircase.

Across the path, you are now and then compensated with more leisurely activities for your hard work. You can participate with two zip-line courses and a swing and barrel flying up to 24 meters high between the trees.

Heading off the major dock to Police Beach to reach the High Rope Park, you will see signs advertising it. The course costs around USD25 for the low season and $35 for the high season.

Koh Rong Bicycle

The Royal Group has built a road that connects their magnificent Royal Sands Resort to Koh Touch, so that you can get from Koh Touch to Long Beach by bike.

It produces a great day trip as you can take a nap with very few people around you on the soft white sandy beaches.

Blob Jump

There’s a Blob Jump at Treehouse Bungalows when you’re up to try something very new and unique. If that’s something you’ve never done, then let’s discover this activity while you’re jumping from 4-6 meters to a giant blob blow-up. You’re going to move to the opposite end, and a friend is going to slide you back into the air and down into the water. It will cost around USD3 per go for this exciting experience.

Reach Long Set Beach/4K Beach by strolling

There’s a great walk on the island if you’re a fan of sightseeing. The trail we’ve got in mind is on Long Set Beach, towards Pura Vita and Long Set Hotel, going right as you get off the ferry on Koh Touch’s central pier.

Particularly, if you’re searching for a quieter holiday on Koh Rong, this part of Koh Touch has some great resorts (we recommend White Beach Bungalows and Tree House Resort, as well as Paradise Bungalows).

Nevertheless, whether or not you choose to stay here, during your visit, you should try to see this place, as the beach is in pristine condition and the ocean waters are spectacular. The next resort is Tree House if you’re going past Paradise Bungalows and White Beach Bungalows on your left side.

Sometimes you have to go into the forest from the actual beach itself, but it’s easy to follow the road. You can walk out to a broad beach vastness (about 4 km or so) with minimal advancement for about 15 minutes.

Koh Rong Weather

The peak season in Koh Rong is from November to mid-May, Koh Rong Island’s weather is back to its best tropical. The temperatures range from 25 °C to 40 °C in the afternoon, with no clouds and low humidity.

Location: Koh Toch Village, Koh Rong

Tel: 069 217 805

Contact: facebook.com/DragonDenPub

The Dragon Den Pub is the first severe bar for Koh Rong. Why do I use the word critical for this spot?

While most Koh Rong bars are restricted to serving cheap Klang beer and toxic Mekong whiskey buckets, Dragon Den houses Koh Rong’s largest selection of beer, including imported wheat beers and Five Men Fresh Beer, a perfect Sihanoukville brewed beer on tap for just $1.

Best of all, they have their own inventions of microbrew.

A Koh Rong pub crawl led by notorious island dweller Richie Rich is available every Tuesday and Friday.

The pub crawl leaves Tuesdays from Sky Bar and Fridays at 8 p.m. from Monkey Island. Tickets cost $8 ahead of time (and can be bought online or at any of the stops) or $10 at the door.

Participants get a free T-shirt, drinks, and a drunken opportunity to get pounded around Koh Rong. Impresarios of the crawl are announcing flip cup, beer pong, and hot staff, plus free shots at every stage. For Tuesdays, there’s a new bar hop playing that attracts a smaller audience.

Police Beach

There is an all-night party on Police Beach on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Here you will enjoy a fully stocked bar and a soundtrack of techno, bass, drums, and deep house.

The band will last as long as you wish them to stay.

They will remain until the last man stands. Entry is USD5 in advanced booking or USD7.50 in front of the gates, but in high season the price is likely to rise. Full moon parties take place at the same venue.

How to Get to Koh Rong from Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh

Many significant changes in how to get to Koh Rong and its sister island Koh Rong Samloem have taken place over the past year.

For all those reasons and upgrades in the transfer companies, nowadays, it is becoming easier and easier to get to the beautiful islands, from much quicker ferry services from Sihanoukville to Koh Rong, to more comfortable flights to Sihanoukville, to the first cross-country train.

How to reach Koh Rong from Sihanoukville

The thing to be prepared before your trip to Koh Rong

Consider making sure you know where you’re going. The major islands are Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, and there are many hotels spread around more than 30 beaches.

Most of the hotels on Koh Touch on Koh Rong and Saracen Bay on Koh Rong Samloem are the major tourist zones.

Below is all the latest news on how to get to these popular spots and how to get to other island areas. I’m going to talk about an excellent method to travel from Koh Touch to Sok San Village, Nature Beach, Long Set Beach, Palm Beach, Prek Svay, M’Pai Bay, Coconut Beach, and more.

Reaching Koh Rong / Koh Rong Samloem from Sihanoukville

You can ride one of the five new ferry services from Sihanoukville to Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem.

Those ferry companies are Cambodia Speed Ferry, Island Speed Boat, Buva Sea Angkor Speed Ferry, and GTVC. There are also a few slow boat services that take 1.5–2.5 hours, which will cost you from USD5-USD10.

However, to hire a slow speed boat service is not what we will recommend you to do while those service providers are not professional.

Getting to your target will take about 40 minutes if it’s the first stop. However, it may take up to 1 hour if the boat stops elsewhere for the first time.

The five services offer new speed boats with comfortable chairs, life jackets, and the prospect of purchasing food and drink on board.

Not that all ferries are fitted with air conditioning, but when the boats set off, there is a constant cool breeze across the seating areas that more than compensates for it.

All five companies will charge a return of about USFD25, but rates that vary based on the time of year such special offers.

These services depart the pier in Sihanoukville from the Ochheuteal (AKA Serendipity) and go to the islands’ major tourist beaches (Koh Touch on Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem on Saracen Bay).

The services stop at two piers, which are very near to each other, for Koh Rong. For Koh Rong Samloem, though, Speed Ferry Cambodia, Island Speed Boat Cambodia, and Buva Sea stop on the left side of the island, while Angkor Speed Ferry and GTVC stop on the right. Best things to do in Sihanoukville Cambodia

Kampot Cambodia, the destination for my weekend

Question and Answers Section

Is Koh Rong worth visiting?

I always conclude that Koh Rong is excellent to visit with a few downsides. Long Beach is undoubtedly one of Southeast Asia’s best beaches. Koh Rong may be touristy, but tourists don’t ruin it in any way.

Which is better Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem?

Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem are the Golden Islands of Cambodia. Cambodia is definitely not known for its tropical beaches and turquoise coastline relative to Thailand.

Yet, don’t underestimate Cambodia’s islands. On the other hand, Koh Rong Samloem is like the more serious, big brother of Koh Rong.

How do you get to Koh Rong?

You can choose one of five advanced ferry companies. Speed Ferry Cambodia (well organized), Island Speed Boat Cambodia, Buva River, Angkor Speed Ferry, and GTVC from Sihanoukville to Koh Rong, or from Sihanoukville to Koh Rong Samloem.

*An alert for you! Be aware not to organize for yourself a tight schedule during this travels, as all these ferries can suffer long delays, and they can be 1 hour, some times 1 hour and 30 minutes late on their schedule.

So! iI you are going, for example, from Koh Rong back to land, and you are planning to book a flight from Sihanoukville airport, you need then to plan a very long period between the time you arrive at the Pier and the boarding time for your flight!

Another alert! Departing from Koh Rong pier or any island pier going back to land, I strongly suggest you book directly with the ferry company, a taxi for your next destination, or the Sihanoukville airport. In this way, the driver will be there at the pier, waiting for you. Otherwise, you will have to lose so much time looking for a free driver!

 Is Koh Rong safe?

Yes, it is safe on Koh Rong Island. It is as safe as many of the world’s safest places, and no one has to stress about traveling there too much. Almost all of Koh Rong’s rooms offer room safes, while the hostels provide lockboxes in each dorm room.

Please excuse what else you could find. Koh Rong is not just a party location! Indeed, Koh Touch, the main tourist town, has a reputation for being quite busy, but there are a lot of other places that are quiet, soothing, and hypnotic.

There are lovely, peaceful places, even on Koh Touch itself, just a little farther down the beach.

How bad are ferry boats affected by rainy weather conditions?

That relies on the day’s weather, but the rain can stop for several hours at a time, even in the rainy season, during which some ferry companies will continue to operate.

Where can I see the glowing plankton?

The bioluminescent plankton, shining like a starry sky everywhere around you, is a beautiful sight to be seen at night.

Although this phenomenon can be abundant on the islands, only places with truly minimal light pollution can see the glowing plankton.

  • So, whether you live at Koh Touch (the main tourist area of Koh Rong) or at Saracen Bay (this is also considered by locals the main tourist area of Koh Rong Samloem), the best way to see the plankton is by reserving a boat tour.
  • You may also walk to Police Beach on non-party nights (15 minutes from the main pier) and Tree House Bungalows (15 minutes from the main pier) on Koh Touch or go to Long Set Beach at the corner of Koh Touch.

Where are the best beaches on this island?

Koh Rong has many beautiful beaches. Here I will raise up a few beaches that may pursue the best activities for most of the tourists.

1) Lonely Beach perhaps the best beach on the islands (including Lazy Beach on Koh Rong Samloem). Lonely Beach is located on the northern side of Koh Rong Island. While it’s not in the most convenient spot, it’s really great. The tiny entry hall feels like a real island paradise with crystal clear ocean waters, soft white sandy beaches all around, and tall palm trees. The atmosphere is quite peaceful as a result of only a few crickets chirping in the distance, quite calm and quiet. There are very few people there, so in a beautiful environment, you feel very vulnerable and disconnected.

2) 4 K Beach/Long Set Beach is considered staying in number two on the list, but now there are many resorts built along this spectacular stretch of white sand, sparkling turquoise ocean and tropical jungle forest. Apart from the fantastic scenery and welcoming clear waters, what’s best about this beach is that it’s just a short walk from Koh Rong Island’s main tourist area (Koh Touch).

3) White Beach is at number 3. It is a 10-minute walk from Koh Touch’s central pier. There are definitely better beaches, of course, but White Beach’s accessibility and the nature of the resorts around this zone push it up one or two places. Given what you might read from the other website, Koh Touch’s far side isn’t a party location and doesn’t struggle from the same setbacks faced by other more popular areas. The beach is clean and tidy on this section of the tourist section, with soft white sands and beautiful clear ocean waters.

What should I bring along with me at Koh Rong?

I would advise getting lots of cash, mosquito spray, suntan lotion, and other necessities. All islands have small shops where you can buy much of what you might need, but prices can be high, so before you leave the mainland, it’s a smart choice to stock up on the basics.

Is there a medical facility on Koh Rong?

Koh Touch (the main tourist area of Koh Rong Island) has a medical facility. Kindly ask somebody for directions when you’re there.

Is it Koh Rong a family-friendly place?

Sure, the islands have plenty of peaceful, family-friendly places.

Where was survivor Koh Rong filmed?

The famous reality show Survivor has been hosted by Koh Rong Cambodia many times.

In 2012, a unique edition of the ”French Survivor” named Koh Lanta was filmed near Sok San Village. The production team came back to shoot the new versions in 2013 and again in 2016.

Also, seasons that became very popular, the Season 31 (Survivor: Cambodia – Second Chance) and the Season 32 (Survivor: Kaoh Rong – Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty) were filmed on Koh Rong Island in 2015, by the American crew for the American version of the show ”Survivor”.

The island was also filmed for the 16th edition of Expedition Robinson (Sweden’s Survivor).

When is the rainy season?

The rainy season stretches from mid-May to November. Short periods of heavy rain can occur during the day during these months.

One thing to clearly remember is that there are several benefits to visiting the islands during the wet season because it is wonderfully hot throughout the peak season.

It is good news for you while those who visit during the rainy season will appreciate half-priced accommodation and beautiful wet landscapes.

Because in Cambodia, it never gets too cold, swimming in the ocean is still a delightful experience (the water rarely drops below 25 °C).
