Going from Pattaya to Aranyaprathet (Overland)
Basically, there are two categories or one can say stages if you want to travel overland to Siem Reap from Pattaya Thailand.
The first one is obviously that you need to reach Aranyaprather/Poipet which is at the Thai/Cambodian border, if you are going for the very first time there then you might not know that cars are not allowed over there in terms that they cannot pass the border.
This means that by getting off at Poipet you will have to arrange for the transport in order to cross the border and then getting inside Cambodia and then go to Siem Reap.
In case you are concerned about the timings of the border, then the Thai/Cambodian border opens up at 07:00 and it remains open till 20:00.

About the Thai/Cambodian border
You need to know before getting there that it can be a bit tricky to cross at Aranyaprathet, as there are various places where people might trick you as you are new there. There are few things that you should keep in your mind such as:
There is no need to get the visa beforehand, it is not a necessity that you should arrange the visa before you are crossing the Thai side of the Cambodian part of that border.
Some of the people will try to trick you that you do need documentation or papers before you are crossing the border, but this is not the reality.
You might notice a fake border building where people might trap you and take advantage, avoid that.
When you are entering the Cambodian police station at the border that is the place where you have to get all the necessary papers that you are required to fill.
That is the place where you will have to pay for the visa as well.
The official price for all this is only 20 dollars.
There is a new building which is situated right next to the Angkor style gate on the Cambodian side of the border, you can get your visa from there and then enter the last police stop from where you will get the documents stamped and enter in Cambodia.

Here are a few pieces of advice that you need to take along, and make sure that you take care of all these.
Here are important things that I want to tell you
1. As we have mentioned before that do not trust anyone with getting the visa thing. You do not have to discuss or pay regarding visas before you are entering the Thai part of the border. You can do this at the customs office at the border, if anyone is asking you that they can arrange a visa for you beforehand then you should know that it is something to avoid.
2. There are so many tourists and people who go through this problem, that some people tell them they should get the money exchange from Baht to Riel and the reason they would give you is that there are no cash machines in Siem Reap.
Do not get trapped in this trick, because this is an absolute lie.
It’s just the person knows that you are new here, and tries to trick you.
- There are plenty of cash machines available in Siem Reap, form very well established Bank institutions, and they will be giving you dollars (you can select as you prefer to receive Us Dollar or local currency) which means that there is no need of getting any exchange done.
- If you need any exchange, you can still use Bank branches too, espacialy the ABA Bank branch nearby Burger King in the center town, as it is open every day of the week, even on Saturdays and Sunday, till 8 PM.
You are advised anyway to use US dollars because there is no way of exchanging the Riels back to any other currency.
Siem Reap is without a doubt a must-go place and you should not miss it, and this is either if you ar traveling with family, solo or with your soul mate.
This totally depends on you that how you use to go over there but in case you want to save your time and can spend on a flight then do so because it allows you to spend more time in the main destination.
Plus it is much less stressful and when you arrive at the airport in Siem Reap you will find a very interesting clean and typical Khmer building, with easy steps to get the Visa on arrival for 30 days and 30 Us Dollars. There is always very polite immigration staff in the arrival lounge, always ready to help you!
